PW is a miserable place , whether you are just starting out or have been in practice for 10, 20 or 30 years. Having been one of the survivors of layoffs of previous recessions, I can only feel sorry for the people who still work there, because they will be worked even harder; PW will be the last place to staff up when things get better. Nothing matters but “productivity.” They string partner candidates along, wringing every last billable hour out of them, and then dump them. They hide behind a progressive facade but are really heartless and cutthroat when it comes to people’s lives. Talent doesn’t matter. Mentoring, being a team player and providing intangible benefits doesn’t matter. Providing first-rate work for clients doesn’t matter, if the clients don’t generate multi-million dollar billings Sure, that may be true of all BigLaw firms these days. But PW pretends it’s different. It’s not.
